The Multiverse Saga has had its fair share of triumphs and disappointments, but some characters have been sadly overlooked. As we approach the highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday, can these overlooked heroes find their redemption?
Since 2020, Marvel Studios has faced a challenging task: balancing the vast MCU with quality storytelling. The pandemic and Hollywood strikes didn't make things easier. Now, with Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars on the horizon, it's time to reflect on the characters who deserve better.
Here are 8 MCU characters who have been wasted in the Multiverse Saga, and why we should care:
Valkyrie: Thor: Ragnarok introduced us to this fierce warrior, but her potential was overshadowed in subsequent films. Her cameo in The Marvels felt like a missed opportunity to explore her connection with Carol Danvers. Will she finally step out of Thor's shadow in the upcoming Avengers films?
America Chavez: This powerful character, introduced in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, seemed destined to be a game-changer. However, she remains confined to Kamar-Taj, with no significant role in the upcoming Avengers movies. The pandemic may have altered her trajectory, but is there still a place for her in the MCU?
Ralph Bohner: WandaVision's finale revealed a twist that left fans divided. Evan Peters' Quicksilver, a beloved X-Men character, was revealed to be an actor named Ralph Bohner. A simple recast or a clever Multiverse twist could have elevated this character, but it seems his story has come to an anticlimactic end.
Abomination: The return of Abomination in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law was exciting, but his comedic portrayal as a group therapy leader felt like a missed opportunity. Fans wanted him to be She-Hulk's secret villain, but instead, he was broken out of prison, leaving us with more questions than answers.
Mephisto: Sacha Baron Cohen's portrayal of Mephisto in Ironheart was a highlight, but Marvel Studios missed the chance to introduce him earlier. The fan outcry for his inclusion in WandaVision was ignored, and now, it seems his potential as a major villain has been wasted.
Nicodemus West: Michael Stuhlbarg's Nicodemus West, introduced in Doctor Strange, had a promising backstory. His return in the sequel was brief, but his journey could have been so much more. With his connection to Kamar-Taj and his controversial medical practices, Nicodemus has the potential to be a complex antagonist.
Eli Bradley: The Young Avengers, a beloved team in the comics, have been absent from the Multiverse Saga. Eli Bradley, introduced as the grandson of Isaiah Bradley, was expected to become Patriot, but he has vanished. Captain America: Brave New World could have been the perfect opportunity to develop his character, but instead, we got a lackluster new Falcon.
Moon Knight: The TV series Moon Knight had its moments, but the impact of Marc Spector and Steven Grant on the MCU has been minimal. There are rumors of a Midnight Sons project, but without an official announcement, it's hard to get excited. If Oscar Isaac's commitment was limited, Marvel Studios should have cast someone eager to explore the character's potential.
These characters deserve better, and with the Multiverse Saga coming to a close, there's still a chance for Marvel Studios to right these wrongs. But here's where it gets controversial: should we expect Marvel to address these concerns, or are some characters destined to remain in the shadows?
