Chelsea's woes continue as Liam Delap suffers a shoulder injury, adding to their mounting injury list. This recent setback occurred during their disappointing 0-0 draw against AFC Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.
In the 32nd minute of the match, Delap, who joined Chelsea from Ipswich Town during the summer transfer window, sustained the shoulder injury. He was subsequently substituted by Marc Guiu. Unfortunately, injuries have become a recurring theme for the 22-year-old striker since his arrival at Stamford Bridge.
Delap had only just returned to the Chelsea squad at the end of October after recovering from a two-month hamstring injury. Now, he faces the possibility of another extended period on the sidelines.
The injury occurred during a tussle with Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi, who landed awkwardly on Delap. According to BBC Sport, Delap appeared to be in considerable pain and may have dislocated his shoulder. He was seen with his shoulder in a sling as he left the field, heading straight to the tunnel.
Delap has started in six Premier League games this season but is yet to score, which highlights the challenges he's faced in adapting to his new club.
But here's where it gets controversial... The recovery time for a dislocated shoulder typically exceeds six weeks. This raises the question of whether Chelsea should consider signing a new striker during the January transfer window.
The Blues are already dealing with a number of injured players, including Levi Colwill, Romeo Lavia, and Moises Caicedo. Delap's latest injury will undoubtedly be a blow to manager Enzo Maresca, who might now need to explore options in the transfer market.
Chelsea has already loaned Nicolas Jackson to Bayern Munich for the remainder of the season, making a recall unlikely.
What do you think? Should Chelsea bring in a new striker in January to bolster their attacking options, or should they rely on the players they currently have? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
